Passporting

The principle that an authorisation granted in one EU or EEA state is valid throughout the bloc without further authorisation.

Passporting is what makes the EU a single market for regulated services. For crypto, it means a CASP authorised in Ireland can serve customers in Germany, France or Spain on the strength of that one authorisation.

It also means the home-state decision is strategic. Regulators differ in how quickly they process, how much substance they expect and how familiar they are with a given business model — and those differences do not follow from the rulebook, which is identical.
