CASP
A crypto-asset service provider authorised under the EU's MiCA regulation, whose authorisation is valid across all 27 EU and EEA states.
MiCA created a single authorisation covering activities such as operating a trading platform, custody, exchange, order execution and advice. Once granted by any member state, it passports across the whole EU and EEA without a second application.
That passporting effect is why the choice of home member state is a commercial decision rather than an administrative one: processing time, regulator capacity, cost and substance expectations vary, and the resulting authorisation is identical in scope.
By jurisdiction
Where the meaning changes.
| Jurisdiction | What differs |
|---|---|
| European Union | The authorisation itself, granted by a national competent authority. |
| United Kingdom | No equivalent — the UK runs its own regime, and a CASP authorisation gives no UK permission. |
